In a busy world, even 10 minutes can feel impossible to squeeze in a workout. Last week, I shared on my Facebook page the results of a study between Microsoft and researchers at the University of Illinois. Over a 2 week period, they found that e-mail breaks and chat conversations pulled workers away from projects an average of 8-10 minutes. These are probably the same folks who would say they never have time for a 10 minute mind and body weight work out.
A CHALLENGE FOR YOU
Take one day and turn off instant messaging and shut off Facebook, email, and Pinterest. Commit to checking it at a couple of designated times that day. You don’t want to miss my emails and Facebook posts. At the end of the day, answer two questions.
- Were you able to stay focused and complete a particular task?
- Did you find that certain tasks did not take you as long as you thought and you had an extra 10 minutes?
WHAT IS A MIND WORKOUT?
I hear so many women say that they are constantly busy and do not have time for themselves and struggle to have daily quiet time with God. If you have discovered that you have an extra 10 minutes by managing your technology better, I encourage you to avoid adding something else to your plate. Take that time to get quiet and spend a little time in prayer, meditation and studying God’s word. It is called getting fitting mentally and spiritually.
WHAT IS A BODY WEIGHT WORKOUT?
A body weight workout is using simple exercises without any weights. I love it because I can get in a quick body weight work out in any room of my house, outside or office. Here is an example.
|Jumping Jacks||1 minute||30 seconds/rest 30 seconds|
|Squats||1 minute||30 seconds/rest 30 seconds|
|Reverse Alternating Lunges||1 minute||30 seconds/rest 30 seconds|
|Pushups||1 minute||30 seconds/rest 30 seconds|
|Tricep Dips||1 minute||30 seconds/rest 30 seconds|
Remember, before beginning any new exercise program, especially a strength training program, consult with your doctor.
As busy women, let us make good use of our time and remember one of my favorite scripture verses.
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
By evaluating and managing your technology, you may discover you can do a 10 minute mind and body weight work out.
