Recently, I wrote on this word Surrender! Who really likes that word and surrenders with a happy heart? Yes, it can be freeing at times, but it can be difficult. However, it is a major step we must take in walking out God’s purpose for our Life and His will each and every day. I am guilty of being obedient in surrendering certain things in my life, but there are those things I would just prefer to keep in my control and figure out for myself. Relate? How is Your Surrender, because here I am again.
I don’t think we ever completely master this surrender thing. As we seek to grow in wisdom, truth and a deeper heart for God, there are things that He wants us to let go of and walk fully in obedience to Him. In my last blog, I shared that my prayer can go something like this.
“Dear Lord, I surrender my relationships, by business, my kids, my future and my body.”
(But, I would sure like the ending to turn out the way it is written in my mind).
There seems to be certain areas of my life, I have struggled to say the words, “surrender, I give it to you, Your will be done,” I trust Him with some things, but in other areas, I just know that I know best.
Just this morning as I read in Proverbs 2, I was reminded that when we seek the Lord more and more, he freely gives us wisdom. When I seek Him for wisdom , the things I want to hold on to make more sense if I give to Him completely. He knows the final outcome.
I cannot walk in all He has for me as long as I am holding on to my plans, my timeline, my own desires.
Hebrews 12:1 says:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
I encourage you today to take the challenge with me to surrender everything (even call it by name) to the Lord. Let’s see what happens. Here are a few that can get us stuck, yet overlook.
- Control of money
- Schedules and timelines
- Desires and outcomes for certain relationships
- Failures and imperfections
- Body, weight
- Fear and worry
- Talents, gifts
- Life purpose, His will
- Strategies and plan to walk it out
Often times, we get stuck and miss the next step that God is calling us to do. We miss the opportunity to walk in complete freedom with Him because of a lack of submission. Just to give my personal example, Sometimes, I feel I know my calling and purpose for a particular season, but I am going to take care of the strategy and steps to make it happen. But, I must believe that He will always have a better way and be willing to surrender every little detail of my life.
So here I am again. I encourage you today to pause and have some quiet time with the Lord and ask the bold hard question?
“What do I need to surrender to you, Lord, to walk in the fullness of all you have for me?”
That brings a wholeness that leads to being
“fit inside and out.”
